When choosing detergents, the neutral principle should be followed to ensure the protection of polyester throws. As a synthetic fiber, the molecular structure of polyester throws is extremely sensitive to alkaline environments. Strong alkaline detergents may destroy the protective layer on the fiber surface, causing the fiber to harden and fade. Therefore, it is recommended to give priority to special detergents with a pH value close to neutral. Such products usually add complex enzymes and softeners, which can not only effectively decompose stains, but also maintain the elasticity of the fiber. For example, the neutral wool detergents launched by some brands have been improved and are also suitable for polyester throws. Their transparent texture and mild formula can effectively avoid the problem of residue.
When using detergents, the amount should be controlled in combination with water quality and the degree of stains. In hard water areas, it is recommended to dilute the detergent in warm water at about 30°C so that it can be better dissolved before soaking the blanket. For ordinary stains, the amount used for each wash can be controlled to 10 to 15 ml; if stubborn stains (such as oil stains or sauces) need to be treated, apply an appropriate amount of detergent to the stain and let it stand for 5 minutes before soaking and washing the whole. Excessive use of detergent will cause residue and form white spots, which will affect the appearance.
Water temperature control is a key factor in the washing effect. The melting point of polyester fiber is between 250 and 260℃, but water temperature exceeding 45℃ will accelerate the aging of the fiber, causing shrinkage and deformation. Therefore, it is recommended to use normal temperature water (20 to 30℃) for washing, which can not only ensure the activity of the detergent but also avoid damage to the fiber. For special stains (such as ink stains or blood stains), spray an appropriate amount of cold water on the stains, and wash the whole after the stains are dissolved.
The washing method should be selected in combination with the characteristics of the product. When washing by hand, put the blanket in a laundry bag, add an appropriate amount of detergent and rub it gently, paying special attention to the easily dirty parts such as the collar and cuffs, and avoid excessive pulling to prevent fiber breakage. When washing by machine, choose the gentle mode or hand wash mode, and control the washing time to 15 to 20 minutes to prevent mechanical force from damaging the fiber. Data show that the color fastness of polyester blankets washed in the gentle mode is 15% higher than that in the normal mode.
Thorough implementation of the rinsing process is crucial. It is recommended to adopt the principle of "small amount and multiple times", and the amount of clean water used for each rinse should not exceed twice the amount of washing, and repeat 3 to 4 times until the rinse water is clear. Residual detergent will destroy the hygroscopicity of the fiber, causing the blanket to feel hard after drying. For darker blankets, 1 to 2 drops of white vinegar can be added during the last rinse, which can neutralize the residual alkaline substances and enhance the color fastness.
During the drying process, attention should be paid to details. Polyester blankets should not be exposed directly to the sun, and ultraviolet rays will accelerate the aging of the fiber and cause the color to turn yellow. Therefore, it is recommended to dry it naturally in a cool and ventilated place, or use a low-temperature dryer (temperature not exceeding 45°C) for drying. When the blanket is dried to 80% or 90%, it can be properly stretched to help restore the blanket to its original state. For blankets that are prone to static electricity, you can add an appropriate amount of softener during the last rinse to reduce the generation of static electricity. Through the above scientific and reasonable washing and care methods, you can effectively extend the service life of polyester fiber blankets and maintain their excellent appearance and feel.
